How the business got started
The greatest arrangement we ever put together at Tryforos & Pernice Florist, is a complimentary crew of innovative and talented floral designers. Over the years we’ve been fortunate to have achieved a high level of mutual respect and support for one another. This is the arrangement which has unleashed the creative talent and energy of our team.
Combining three generations of cumulative experience, education and design aesthetics has enabled us to reveal the truly transformative potential cut flowers can have on people. Done right, a floral arrangement can turn a lackluster mood into excitement or make the ordinary extraordinary.
Our work is labor intensive, but also rewarding. We pay meticulous attention to detail and consider our clients' objectives as well as their personalities when crafting a design for them.
Beautiful flowers and greenery from Dutch auctions and handpicked blooms from the New York Flower market arrive several times weekly. At any time, we can accommodate a quick “grab and go” bouquet for impulse occasions or go classic to trendy, for other events, which require consideration.
Our store is real, not virtual. So we always have a great selection of plants, gift items and designer silk flowers. Best of all, there is a designer to answer questions, offer suggestions, or just chat with. The flower shop of Tryforos & Pernice has been the location of choice for several television commercials and short spots in films. Recently MTV did a shoot in our shop.
In a culture characterized by change, we still keep in mind that “we are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen”.
Three generations ago, around the very early 1900’s the original Tryforos Brothers Florist in New York City and the Bronx may have done business with your grandparents or great-grandparents. Flowers were delivered by horse-drawn wagons and peddled in the city streets on flower pushcarts, which, incidentally was the inspiration for our business flower cart logo.
Dedication and diligence has yielded some unsolicited attention; occasionally our work is featured in magazine publications and periodicals. Recently, Serendipity, a specialty magazine circulated exclusively for Fairfield County, CT and Westchester County, NY, and Westchester Brides featured designs by Gary and Anna Tryforos.
We continue to do weekly deliveries to restaurants, corporate and professional offices, retailers and hotels. Please keep in mind we have a generous selection of floral supplies available for those of you who enjoy creating your own floral designs.
